“Welcome to the DeKalb Municipal Band website. Visit it often to see updates of the 169th consecutive year making music in DeKalb. Being the conductor of this wonderfully talented group of musicians is truly an honor. I feel blessed each week when I step on the podium where Dee Palmer stood for 63 years, like his father and grandfather did before him. It is something I don’t take lightly and never for granted.

Each Tuesday night we fill the Dee Palmer Bandshell at Hopkins Park in DeKalb with the very finest musicians in Northern Illinois and fill the beautiful Hopkins Park with a variety of musical selections for the enjoyment of our audience. From Classical repertoire like Tchaikovsky and Bernstein, marches from composers like John Phillip Sousa and Karl King to musical comedy scores and movie themes. Each week we feature a vocal soloist from the area, you can read more about those talented vocalists right here on this website. Several times a year we also feature talented instrumentalists from within the band, as well as local professional instrumentalists.

There is always something special at Hopkins Park on Tuesday nights all summer long. Please visit us here often, LIKE us on Facebook and Instagram but more importantly, plan on attending our concerts on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm. Not only are we the oldest continuously performing municipal band in the country, but we are definitely one of the best!”
